Dragged or generated Contours that fit flawlessly

Whether dragged or generated contours are preferred J.R. CanMap excels at both. If tying to existing work we ensure that the edges of the new and existing work fit flawlessly.

All dragged contours are done digitally on our softcopy systems by highly qualified stereo compilers. Since these contours are drawn in the digital stereo environment our compilers can ensure the contours will fit the ground perfectly and tie naturally to existing work with no final editing. There are many surfaces where dragging contours is more economical than creating a DEM, then generating and editing contours.

If generated contours are requested we can create the highest quality contours from any surface that is provided to us. J.R. CanMap also does LIDAR enhancement and editing to correct discrepancies in the DEM in order to generate the most accurate contours possible. This is especially important along hydrographic and hard surface features where LIDARs shortfalls become apparent.

When no DEM is available for contouring we can create one. Our DEMs are created by highly skilled operators with interactive contouring to ensure the DEM surface generates contours true to the ground. Contours are generated and viewed in 3D and the DEM is then modified to correct any aberrations in the contouring. Contours may be generated and the DEM modified several times to ensure accuracy. These contours can then be further modified with smoothing and filtering programs tailored to the specific task to get the exact look the client desires.
